Hi, I’m Shelby. I am the grateful founder of Colibrí and I would like to share a little about my journey and experience (so far!) that has brought me here.
I began my healing path in a traditional western way, obtaining my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Kentucky in 2011.
While attending nursing school, at the age of 21, I began losing hair in patches and was diagnosed with alopecia areata. A year later, I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.
These diagnosis actually gifted me quite the blessing. I began getting more in touch with myself, body and spirit, and started to view my health issues in a very different way. Instead of seeing them as my enemies, they were now my teachers.
My journey into holistic healing first took place on the physical plane. I got very into physical exercise and nutrition. Taking care of my body provided a clean, clear environment for my mind and spirit to also be less toxic, which provided grounds for an active spiritual relationship with my existence and world. In other words, I began to “wake up”.
For several years, I searched for what resonated with me in the healing world as I continued working as an RN in hospitals. My first training in alternative health was through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition where I received a health coaching certification in 2013. Around this time, I also began a relationship with my current partner who owns and operates a natural foods company and I became involved in the local foods movement.
In August of 2015 I took a very impactful trip to Peru to work with the Paititi Institute, whose mission is to preserve traditional Peruvian culture and land. I spent 6 weeks in Peru studying under Shamans, Roman Hanis and Cynthia Robinson, learning shamanic dream language, energy movement, communing closely with nature in the Andes mountains, and working with South American plant medicines.
I continued my plant path with the study of western herbalism and completed the “Herbal Energetics” program with renowned herbalist Matthew Wood. I am currently apprenticing in herbalism under Kathi Keville. In addition, I have recieved formal education and training in qijong, shiatsu, and tea ceremony.
I have had continued my relationship with the Paititi Institute, becoming a facilitator of the Distance Healing Program where I work closely with clients in the modalities of dream interpretation and spiritual coaching.I also manage the Paititi Marketplace which carries handmade traditional goods from medicine people and families of Peru with the vision of creating right livelihood and preserving ancestral culture.
Through all of my varied experience, I formed the entity Colibrí, to be able to offer my unique view and skillset and continue to cultivate my healing practice.
